Congratulations to our guests Claude, Karen, Anneke, Sonia, Sven, Christine, Vabine, Khaled, Marten and Heather who won the 10 prizes of our Chrismas Charity Raffle.
We would like to thank everyone for participating and donating - we managed to raise a total of 8,000 LE (Egyptian Pounds) for the orphans of Marsa Alam. You can see all the pictures of this evening in our FB album.
And there is more to come:
Christine, who won the main raffle prize - the Aqualung Regulator - will sell it to the highest bidding guest on site and the money will go as well to the orphan kids in Marsa Alam!
We are so happy and thankful for all the support we got from the RSDS family & friends!
In the coming weeks and months we will inform you about the items purchased for the Orphanage with your money. Stay tuned!
More about the cause:
We have a long-standing relationship with Gamayet Kafalet el Yateem, (Association of Orphan Supporters) in Marsa Alam. This association is led by Mr Saber Mohamed Hussein, a friend of Hossam Helmy and well-known Marsa Alam citizen. The association collects monthly donations from 265 members, each donating a monthly amount. With this money plus other donations, the 9 volunteer workers provide support to local orphans, regularly checking on them and ensuring their welfare. Of course the demand is higher than the current monthly amount raised and it is a hard task to decide on the fair distribution of the funds. There are 97 orphans from the Marsa Alam community currently being looked after by the association, some Bedouins and some of Marsa Alam's citizens. As well as their daily welfare, there are also other special situations which require additional donations. We hope that some of the money we raise can be put towards the marriage of one of the current orphan girls who cannot cover even the basic costs involved in getting married and starting a married life.
