To all agents, guests and friends of RSDS, We are writing to update you on the current situation as we are aware that you may have seen Egypt in the news again today.
This morning, the army and authorities took the decision to clear two protest camps in Cairo, where Morsi supporters had been staging a sit-in since the beginning of July. The army and interim government decided to disperse the sit-ins and as a result of this there have been some clashes today, concentrated around the areas of the protests.
Emergency Law has officially been put in place as of this afternoon however this is not an active measure in the Red Sea Governorate. We will bring you more details as and when there are developments, but in the meantime we would like to reassure all our guests, friends and agents that our three southern villages are completely unaffected and are a long way from these incidents. Our guests on site are enjoying their holidays and diving as usual with no effect from events going on elsewhere in Egypt. We are also in close contact with authorities in Marsa Alam and Hurghada to ensure that should any incidents occur in these cities, we will be well-informed.
We hope this serves to reassure you and if you have any concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

During the last 3 years, Egypt experienced 2 revolutions, the second one on July 30th 2013. We have seen the pictures and messages being passed on by the media in Europe which scares people to come to Egypt. With regard to this, we would like to share some thoughts with you:
Marsa Alam is about 800km from Cairo and about 1000km from Alexandria. The Red Sea Governorate starts north of Hurghada and stretches until the border of Sudan in the South. During the first and second revolution, we have not heard or witnessed any unrest or violence in the Red Sea Governorate. We are confident that anyone who comes to visit Marsa Alam will feel safe and will not be anywhere near the centre of the demonstrations being shown in Western Media. It is peaceful and quiet down here.
This is not only our own opinion, this is what we have been hearing from all our guests, who have been enjoying the quiet destinations of RSDS, the sun and diving during the last month. This view is also backed up by the different European Foreign Affairs Ministries who did not issue a travel warning for the Red Sea Regions. Although there are areas of unrest in Cairo and Alexandria, we are confident that the issues will be solved soon and that Egypt will get back on track.
As we mentioned previously, what happened on June 30th was not a military coup but a revolution by the majority of the Egyptian people which was backed by the Egyptian military. This is why we are confident that from now on things will start to fall into place.
We continue to do what we do best: welcoming our European friends in our locations to show them the beauty of the Red Sea, to let them spend a relaxed and quiet time with us.
Please find a selection of our guests in July & August who agree with us and wanted to support RSDS with the “Support Egypt 2013 campaign https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.610771545608109.1073741841.224215794263688&type=3
