For the second year running, RSDS had the pleasure of hosting the European Our World-Underwater Scholar, sponsored by Rolex. This year's scholar, Kim Hildebrandt, came to Marsa Shagra for two weeks in June at the beginning of her scholarship year. Armed with a camera setup from Reef Photo and Video she attended the 2019 Red Sea Photo Camp with Paul Duxfield and Phil and Anne Medcalf from Alphamarine Photography.
During the workshop the team helped her from the basics of setting up her equipment, through to progressing to getting great photos. She dived with the team and with other participants in the workshop both on our house reef at Marsa Shagra and some of our other dive sites such as Elphinstone and Marsa Abu Dabab.
Having studied veterinary medicine, Kim has a particular interest in marine mammals so was able to meet up with Dr Ahmed Shawky from the Egyptian Ministry of Environment and Egyptian Dugong Project to complete the PADI Dugong Conservation Specialty course. Dr Ahmed kindly gave a presentation about dugongs and his conservation project to our Marsa Shagra guests.
