RSDS has been supporting Reef Check since 2009, carrying out surveys every year at over 10 dive sites. We are very proud of the amount of data we have been able to collect on a regular basis and contribute to the global Reef Check database over more than 10 years. The data we have obtained has been very useful for us to monitor the health and quality of our local reefs. This November we were joined by Reef Check Trainers Gottfried and Elke Tinofer who managed to carry out a survey of Marsa Nakari North along with our marketing manager, Sarah.
Sarah undertook the fish survey, and Gottfried and Elke carried out both the substrate and invertebrate surveys. As experienced Reef Checkers they were able to carry out the surveys quickly and efficiently, followed by a debrief in Marsa Nakari cafeteria and a chance to enter all the data into spreadsheets to be submitted to Reef Check global headquarters.
We always need more people to join our survey team. The more certified eco divers we have, the easier and faster it is to survey. Joining a Reef Check survey is a fun way to meet like-minded people and to give something back to our environment. Not only that, as supporters of Reef Check, RSDS fully sponsors all dives undertaken for Reef Check surveys or Reef Check courses.
In 2023 we will be offering the Reef Check Eco Diver course with our Reef Check team scientist Stephan Moldzio from 13-16 July, in time to carry out our annual surveys from 17-23 July. You can find out more about our Reef Check activities here.
