We were very happy to be able to carry out our Reef Check activities in 2021, having had to cancel our surveys and courses in 2020 due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Our team scientist, Stephan Moldzio, gave the Reef Check Eco Diver Course and then led a team of 7 eco divers who carried out surveys at five sites: Marsa Shagra, Marsa Nakari, Marsa Gabel el Rosas, Abu Nawas Garden and Sharm Abu Dabab.
Marsa Shagra House Reef, as usual, showed the highest level of coral coverage, at 74%. The health of the house reef is largely due to the sustainable model we have implemented since we started in 1990, limiting the number of users according to the carrying capacity of the house reef.
We would like to thank all the participants for giving their time to participate in these surveys which are essential for monitoring the health of our local coral reefs.
You can read the full report here.
If you would like to become a certified Eco Diver, or are already certified and would like to participate in our surveys, keep an eye on our Reef Check page for upcoming dates.
