We are happy to announce that the winner of the RSDS Photo Competition for June has been chosen. Congratulations to Martina Andres for her photo 'Ray'.
Martina wins a free stay at the RSDS village of her choice. You can view the winning photo, and all the June participants here.
If you would like a chance to win, simply register on our website and upload your photos from our competition page. Each day we choose a 'photo of the day' from the selection of entries. Registered users of our website can give all the photos a star rating. At the end of the month our Photo Pro and photography workshop leader, Paul ‘Duxy’ Duxfield, looks at the votes and chooses a winner from the highest scoring photos. Congratulations again to Martina, and good luck to all those participating this year!
Paul Duxfield, our new competition judge:
"There are some classic Red Sea subjects that it’s a gamble taking and entering a photo competition with.Lionfish, Morays, Napolean’s and of course Blue Spotted Rays.Instantly recognizable with their incongruous blue spots, can’t be camouflage surely? And their cat like amber eyes are such a draw that they are in everyones album of Egyptian underwater shots.Martina has doen a great job here though of elevating this picture above the many examples of BSR’s we see.Lovely compositional elements, with diagonals with the tail and it’s position to the camera, and rule of thirds giving usgreat eye contact. Lot’s of boxes ticked. The main thing for me though is that Martina has made a still photograph look dynamic and full of action as these creatures can often lookvery static, I know as I have lot’s of very static looking shots of BSR’s myself.Lovely shot, and a worthy winner.
