We are happy to announce that the winner of the RSDS Photo Competition for June has been chosen. Congratulations to Stefan Beskow with his photo "Mirror, mirror".
Stefan wins a free stay at the RSDS village of his choice. You can view the winning photo, and all the June participants here.
If you would like a chance to win, simply register on our website and upload your photos from our competition page. Each day we choose a 'photo of the day' from the selection of entries. Registered users of our website can give all the photos a star rating. At the end of the month our Photo Pro and photography workshop leader, Paul ‘Duxy’ Duxfield, looks at the votes and chooses a winner from the highest scoring photos. Full terms and conditions and prize details are available here.
Congratulations again to Stefan, and good luck to all those participating this year!
Paul Duxfield, our competition judge:
"Some fabulous and unusual entries this month, and ultimately i've chosen a shot that not only demonstratesnovelty but also the winning combination of aesthetics and technique.First though i’d like to mention the close runs, with Ahmed Elzaablawy and Robert McConville’s beautiful renditions of that popular reef subject the Moray. With Robert's in particular showing a mastery of dramatic lighting which elevates it above the more usual flat lighting that is so often seen.At the final viewing though it was an easy choice and the gorgeous shot of a squid reflected on the surface of the water immediately caught my eye.A masterful execution of careful lighting and framing, which at first I thought was a pair of squid but on closer inspection could see the distortionof the reflection in the rippling surface water.Flash exposure can often be tricky with this sort of shot but Stefan Beskow has done a wonderful job of not over exposing the creature.Very well done indeed.
