We are happy to announce that the winner of the RSDS Photo Competition for April has been chosen. Congratulations to Johannes Hallama for his photo "Seahorse".
Johannes wins a free stay at the RSDS village of his choice. You can view the winning photo, and all the April participants here.
If you would like a chance to win, simply register on our website and upload your photos from our competition page. Each day we choose a 'photo of the day' from the selection of entries. Registered users of our website can give all the photos a star rating. At the end of the month our Photo Pro and photography workshop leader, Paul ‘Duxy’ Duxfield, looks at the votes and chooses a winner from the highest scoring photos. Full terms and conditions and prize details are available here.
Congratulations again to Johannes, and good luck to all those participating this year!
Paul Duxfield, our competition judge:
"It really doesn't get any easier this job ! And I know i've said things along these lines before, but it was a very difficult choice for April. I am personally a big fan of wideangle shots, and what’s not to like about dolphins eh? However it really was difficult choosing between the three dolphin shots as they all had great merit, with particular mentionto Sarah Lee’s and Keith Sheldon’s having very good eye contact too. And then there was two really good macro shots which went beyond simple ID shots, with Johannes sea horse and Paul Williams beautiful study of tiny coral detail. In the end though the fact that we had three strong dolphin shots, actually made me indecisive as to which one to go for, so from a graphic and compositionally brave point of view I felt that the lone yellow seahorse in a surrounding negative space of blue from Johannes Hallama just edged it over Paul’s lovely study of the small details upon the reef. So a deserved win by a slim margin for Johannes Hallama. Honestly though all of these shots were worthy, and this judges afternoon has been spent agonising over which one to go for. So seriously well done everyone who entered the April comp, I have a few more grey hairs as a result !"
