We are happy to announce that the winner of the RSDS Photo Competition for August has been chosen. Congratulations to Wijnand Plekker with his photo "I. AM. OCEANIC".
Wijnand wins a free stay at the RSDS village of his choice. You can view the winning photo, and all the August participants here.
If you would like a chance to win, simply register on our website and upload your photos from our competition page. Each day we choose a 'photo of the day' from the selection of entries. Registered users of our website can give all the photos a star rating. At the end of the month our Photo Pro and photography workshop leader, Paul ‘Duxy’ Duxfield, looks at the votes and chooses a winner from the highest scoring photos. Full terms and conditions and prize details are available here.
Congratulations again to Wijnand, and good luck to all those participating this year!
Paul Duxfield, our competition judge:
"A very difficult choice for me this month, and in all honesty I chose the winner I did, only because the close runners upwere let down with some very minor editing, framing and compositional elements.
So in the end I went for the very moody and dramatic head on picture of that iconic Red Sea Shark the Oceanic White Tip. A creature that I was lucky enough to see even before I'd had my breakfast on my last visit to Marsa Shagra.
Robby took us out to Elphinstone and it was a marvellous adventure.
Back to the competition. There was some very close runners up with Tamer’s dolphins, a beautiful head on nudibranch from Bernda resting turtle from Jeroen, but in the end the shark from Wijnand Plekker got my decision. Excellent well done all, you made my afternoon very difficult ;) So in return I’d like to ask you all a favour please?
I’d like to throw a question out to everybody who’s entered or is thinking of entering this fun and rewarding competition. Would entrants appreciate it if I made a short video, with maybe some words of advice and some editing tips to the runners up to be postedon the RSDS Facebook Page for the future competitions? This way I could take you through my choices and maybe do a quick edit of one or two of the runners up pictures to show in a videowhat I meant with my words?
Paul “Duxy” Duxfield"
