A cracking and classic example of a Clownfish by Bertrand Herm, a beautiful shot of an Oceanic White Tip by Ahmed Helal, and a dramatic study of a Lionfish, all Red Sea favourites so quite a difficult task to make them stand out from the crowd.
There was also an enigmatic shot of tiny crab inside a pice of coral, difficult and requiring patience by Pal Winkrantz, and Melanie Kern’s lovely scenic of a magnificent anemone against a lovely dark blue background.
All good but ultimately what I decided upon was the Lionfish framed against a sunburst, by Ferenc Lorincz.
Simple composition, graphically dramatic, and quite a tricky technical challenge requiring the ability to control both foreground and background exposure with deftness.
This sort of technique is something we cover in the Red Sea Photo Camp which we are conducting again in June 2020.
So why not join me and Phil and Anne Medcalf for rolling workshops covering exposure, composition, lighting and a whole variety of techniques in a fun and easy going manner next summer.
Well done Ferenc, a worthy winner against difficult competition.
