I went down the classic macro route in the end for my decision for November, but not first having serious thoughts about a couple of stunning turtle shots from Charlie Maw and Michael Sjøstrom. In fact both of these were lovely in very different ways, Michael's looked like it was taking a selfie against sunbeams cascading down into the frame, and Charlie's made you double take when you realise that the turtle is being accompanied by a little friend!
I am also always impressed, and really love to see a nice topside shot, as I think it’s equally important to flex your creative muscles everywhere and take advantage of the plethora of photo opportunities that arise between the dives when staying at one of the Red Sea Diving Safari locations.
There’s always interesting wildlife topside as Sibylle Malinke has shown with her shot of a stork, and the beautiful sunsets witnessed most evenings, as portrayed by Ole Dreyer.
I gave all of these shots serious consideration but in the end it was Gennady Elfimov's fabulous Flabellina nudibranch that I kept returning to. Beautifully composed, with contrasting colours that show off this very tiny creature, which is not always so easy to capture photographically.
Well done Gennady, cracking shot.
