We are happy to announce that the winner of the RSDS Photo Competition for July has been chosen. Congratulations to Tom Bolle with his photo “Brush Teeth“!
Tom wins a free stay at the RSDS village of his choice. You can view the winning photo, and all the July participants here.
If you would like a chance to win, simply register on our website and upload your photos from our competition page. Each day we choose a 'photo of the day' from the selection of entries. Anyone can register on our website and vote on photos entered into the competition. At the end of the month our Photo Pro and photography workshop leader, Paul ‘Duxy’ Duxfield, looks at the votes and chooses a winner from the highest scoring photos. Full terms and conditions and prize details are available here.
Congratulations again to Tom, and good luck to all those participating in 2019!
From Paul Duxfield, our competition judge:
At first viewing of July’s competition choices my initial decision was very clear, but upon reviewing the pictures the following day I became a bit indecisive. My first choice and the eventual winner was the same but a couple of the other shots grew in status as I reassessed the shots.
The two shots that almost toppled the eventual winner were the humorous head on shot of the Napolean Wrasse and a pair of divers by Kristen, beautifully
composed and full of character and shows the diving world as a fun place to be. The second shot that caught my eye was Adrian’s excellent portrait of a hermit crab. Both these shots had an injection of humour that elevated them above a casual snapshot, and they made my eventual choice more difficult.
The winner though was a classic shot that whilst it perhaps wouldn't have as broad an appeal to non divers as the runners up would, it showcased an underwater photographers skill in finding some interesting marine life behaviour at a cleaning station, as a trigger fish was being cleaned by a gang of shrimps. Closely cropped to highlight the hard working crustaceans performing cleaning duties on the larger Titan Trigger it was my first choice and eventually my final choice but it was a close run thing in the end.
So well done Tom Bolle, a great shot!
