We are happy to announce that the winner of the RSDS Photo Competition for August has been chosen. Congratulations to Ole Dreyer with his photo “Anemone Shrimp“!
Ole wins a free stay at the RSDS village of his choice. You can view the winning photo, and all the August participants here.
If you would like a chance to win, simply register on our website and upload your photos from our competition page. Each day we choose a 'photo of the day' from the selection of entries. Anyone can register on our website and vote on photos entered into the competition. At the end of the month our Photo Pro and photography workshop leader, Paul ‘Duxy’ Duxfield, looks at the votes and chooses a winner from the highest scoring photos. Full terms and conditions and prize details are available here.
Congratulations again to Ole, and good luck to all those participating in 2019!
From Paul Duxfield, our competition judge:
Most that know me realise that the shots that I like from a personal level are usually wide angle shots that ’sell’ the concept of scuba diving and how much fun it can be, so it’s rare that I am swayed by often excellent macro pictures, and when there's a great reef scene, wreck shot or wide angle action shot as another choice then I have a tendency to pick those over a macro or super macro picture. So it really has to be a very eye catching and spectacular macro picture to draw my attention, and this month my attention was captured by the excellent, and simply framed picture of a translucent shrimp resting on a single tentacle of a bubble anemone.
Ole Dreyer’s lovely well executed shot portrays what can be found if you conduct your photo dive with a keen eye and a macro lens. And you take your time to think about the technicalities, but also exercise your creative faculties too.
Well done an excellent shot.
Close runners up were Tom Bolle’s alternative view of a Titan Trigger fish being cleaned by a cleaner wrasse, which considering he won last months comp with a Titan being cleaned by shrimps shows he’s a brave man confronting these feisty fish! and another I really liked was Ann Sophie Hoffmans shot of a yawning Blacktip Grouper with great eye contact.
