We are happy to announce that the winner of the RSDS Photo Competition for December 2024 has been chosen. Congratulations to Marea Lange with her photo "Nudi climbing a coral".

If you would like a chance to win, simply register on our website and upload your photos from our competition page. Each day we choose a 'photo of the day' from the selection of entries. Anyone can register on our website and vote on photos entered into the competition. At the end of the month our Photo Pro and photography workshop leader, Paul ‘Duxy’ Duxfield, looks at the votes and chooses a winner from the highest scoring photos. This month was loads easier than last to choose a definitive winner. That’s not to say there wasn’t difficult decisions to be made.
I really loved Svenja Lange’s monochrome jelly fish. I do love a jelly fish they're super common just like sunsets but just like sunsets they're invariably beautiful and good editing choice to render this one in black and white.
I was also taken with Keith Sheldon’s hunting Jack amongst the silversides and Dirk Van Winkel’s Turtle that seems to be confused that its just laying on the reef but is posed like it’s swimming.
However the front place wasn’t in any doubt once I’d seen the field, and this year end winner is Marea Lange’s climbing nudi. A masterful shot, dynamic angle, perfect exposure and a testament to the fact that a great shot of a common creature will always win out against a plain shot of a rare creature.
Well done, sharp on the Rhinopores, it’s in action, simple with the creature front and centre like this it’s easy to just do a fish ID shot but Marea has waited for it to adopt a more photogenic pose. Excellent stuff, well done.
