At the beginning of February we had the pleasure of hosting two separate groups from the AUC (American University in Cairo).
Each group was visiting Marsa Alam as part of their studies as a retreat to experience a different part of Egypt.
By the time they graduate they will have visited many different parts of Egypt. Many of you may be surprised to know that the majority of city dwellers in Egypt never have the chance to visit the Red Sea and see for themselves the incredible natural resources their country is blessed with. While the groups were with us they went on some local excursions, and we also organized some activities for them. We were joined by Islam Elsadek of the Egyptian National Parks for an evening presentation about the work of the National Parks, and Red Sea turtles. Ahmed Fouad Gad also came to do a presentation about the work that HEPCA is doing. They got an introduction about:
- Coastal Zone Management
- Ecosystem in the Red Sea
- Pollution and oil spills
- Climate change and coral reefs
- Solid Waste Management
- Stop plastic bags initiative
- Beach and Underwater Clean ups
- Sustainable Fishing
- Environmental Education
- Samadai Protectorate
The students were eager to attend and interested in learning more about HEPCA's activities to protect and keep our environment clean.
For each group we had a barbecue on the beach in Marsa Nakari, with Bedouins making fresh Gabana and bread. Check out the pictures of their visits here.
Marsa Nakari is the perfect location for groups of varying sizes, and those visiting for different purposes. We really enjoyed hosting the AUC and look forward to the next visit.
