We are happy to announce that the winner of the RSDS Photo Competition for August 2022 has been chosen. Congratulations to Christian Horras with his photo "Octopus Love".
Christian wins a free stay at the RSDS village of his choice. You can view the winning photo, and all the August participants here.
If you would like a chance to win, simply register on our website and upload your photos from our competition page. Each day we choose a 'photo of the day' from the selection of entries. Anyone can register on our website and vote on photos entered into the competition. At the end of the month our Photo Pro and photography workshop leader, Paul ‘Duxy’ Duxfield, looks at the votes and chooses a winner from the highest scoring photos. Full terms and conditions and prize details are available here.
Congratulations again to Christian, and good luck to all those participating in the coming months!
From Paul Duxfield, our competition judge:
I must say that one of our regular entrants seems to have really raised his game of late and his picture entered into this months crop is a great example, he hasn't won this month and when you see the winner you’ll realise it is a very obvious and clear winner, but worth mentioning that I see some regular entrants names and it’s really worth persisting as you’ll get there in the end, as proven by Gennady Elfimovs top down turtle, very well composed and gorgeous colours Gennady.
Now though for a really spectacular shot, it’s behavioral so interesting as an observation of marine life doing their thing, but it’s also beautifully composed, and technically executed.
I’m referring to Christian Horras picture of a pair of mating octopus, I’ve got a shot of a pair of mating octopus but this one is in another league entirely, nicely separated against a perfect blue background.
And positioned so that there’s enough of this loved up pairs bodies set against that perfect azure background. Amazing shot of a literally touching moment. Sad as well, as with octopus mating is one of the last things they do before dying.
